The Privacy Layer for Onchain Bank Payments

Banks can now run confidential EUR settlement on public blockchains

Monerium and Bermuda are partnering to enable international companies to pay directly from their bank account into a European SEPA account without going through correspondent banks.

Correspondent banking is slow, expensive, and heavily reliant on USD settlement. Public blockchains solve this with instant settlement and negligible fees, but their total transparency creates severe commercial and operational risks.

Our partnership with Bermuda solves this friction by layering institutional privacy onto public networks. Financial institutions gain the speed, security, and uptime of open rails, paired with the strict confidentiality and compliance required for interbank transfers.

With Monerium, the money goes from one bank account to the other without correspondent banks, Bermuda keeps the route confidential, and the regulator still sees what it needs to, so the bank can finally say yes.

Together, we are enabling banks to harness the speed and cost advantages of stablecoin settlement while keeping their client relationships, deposit bases, and core clearing systems fully protected.

Example: a Brazilian company pays a German supplier

A company in São Paulo owes a machine builder near Stuttgart 1.5 million euros. Through correspondent banking, its Brazilian bank sends the payment via one or more correspondent banks before it reaches the German account. Each bank screens the payment and can take a fee; the FX spread is built into the rate, and the Brazilian bank must keep balances prefunded with its correspondents for the payment to go out at all. If the instruction arrives after the cut-off or on a weekend, it waits for the next business day.

Through Monerium and Bermuda, the São Paulo company instructs its bank as normal. Monerium’s infrastructure automatically mints stablecoins directly from the local bank account upon execution. The payment routes securely through Bermuda’s shielded accounts, recording only a zero-knowledge proof of a valid, screened transaction on the public ledger. Finally, Monerium redeems the funds into euros directly into the German machine builder’s SEPA account, eliminating correspondent banks entirely.

This works directly from the bank’s own rails, and settlement between EUR and GBP, BRL, PLN, NOK or TRY is already live.

The bank keeps its accounts, deposit funding, customer relationships, products and brand, and it can support whichever stablecoins its clients use, including its own deposit token.

Rollout:

Our initial rollout targets high-friction cross-border corridors, like UK and Brazilian corporate payments into European bank accounts, where privacy risks and public ledger costs are highest. This exact setup extends seamlessly to corporate payroll and treasury management as we deepen integration driven by client demand.

We’re excited to work with Bermuda to make confidentiality and compliance a core part of the next generation of banking infrastructure.
